PTC will take steps reasonably necessary to make certification accessible to persons with disabilities covered under the ADA. According to the ADA, an individual with a disability is a person who has a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits a major life activity (such as seeing, hearing, learning, reading, concentrating, walking) or a major bodily function (such as neurological, endocrine, or digestive system). The information you provide and any documentation regarding your disability and test accommodations will be held in strict confidence.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph SCXW196120209 BCX0\">All approved testing accommodations must maintain the psychometric nature and security of the examination. Accommodations that fundamentally alter the nature or security of the exam will not be\u00a0granted.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph SCXW196120209 BCX0\">Please refer details and processes outlined in the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nutritioncare.org\/nbnsc\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2025\/02\/NBNSC-Candidate-Handbook-2025.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Candidate Handbook<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n                <\/div>\n            <\/div>\n        <\/div>\n                <div class=\"faq-item\" x-data=\"{ open: false }\">\n            <button type=\"button\" :aria-expanded=\"open\" @click=\"open = ! open\">Certification Period and Recertification<\/button>\n            <div>\n                <div>\n                <p class=\"Paragraph SCXW10928466 BCX0\">Eligible candidates who pass the Certification Examination for Nutrition Support Clinicians are entitled to use the registered designation CNSC<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>\u00a0after their names and will receive certificates from the NBNSC. A registry of Certified Nutrition Support Clinicians will be maintained by the NBNSC and may be reported in publications.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph SCXW10928466 BCX0\">Nutrition support clinician certification is recognized for a period of five years at which time the candidate must retake and pass the Certification Examination for Nutrition Support Clinicians in order to retain certification.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph SCXW10928466 BCX0\">The purpose of requiring recertification renewal is to measure continued competent and knowledgeable nutrition support practice. Certification demonstrates to your patients, colleagues, and employers that you have the skills necessary to provide the best care possible.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph SCXW10928466 BCX0\">Should an individual with a current CNSC<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>\u00a0credential opt to take the certification examination early, all maintenance of the CNSC<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>\u00a0credential will be based upon when the individual took the certification examination. \u00a0<br class=\"SCXW63548985 BCX0\" \/>\u00a0<br class=\"SCXW63548985 BCX0\" \/>\u202f\u202f\u202f<em>\u202f\u202f Scenario 1<\/em>: Certifee A is currently certified as a CNSC<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>\u00a0from October 2011 \u2013 October 2016. Certifee A wants to become recertified and opts to take the certification examination in April 2016 instead of October 2016. Certifee A\u202f\u202fsuccessfully passes the certification examination, then the certification period is April 2016 \u2013 April 2021.\u00a0<br class=\"SCXW63548985 BCX0\" \/>\u00a0<br class=\"SCXW63548985 BCX0\" \/>\u202f\u202f\u202f\u202f\u202f\u00a0<em>Scenario 2<\/em>: Certifee A is currently credentialed as a CNSC<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>\u00a0from October 2011 \u2013 October 2016. Certifee A wants to become recertified and opts to take the certification examination in April 2016 instead of October 2016. Certifee A is unsuccessful in passing the certification examination. Upon receiving the exam results Certifee A is no longer a CNSC<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>\u00a0and cannot use the credential until the certification examination is again taken and successfully passed. In summary anytime the certification examination is taken and not passed, certification lapses.<\/p>\n                <\/div>\n            <\/div>\n        <\/div>\n                <div class=\"faq-item\" x-data=\"{ open: false }\">\n            <button type=\"button\" :aria-expanded=\"open\" @click=\"open = ! open\">Confidentiality<\/button>\n            <div>\n                <div>\n                <p>NBNSC will release the individual test scores ONLY to the individual candidate. Any questions concerning test results should be referred to NBNSC or PTC.\u00a0It is unethical to recall or memorize and share test questions or to solicit questions on the certification exams from candidates who have taken the exam.<\/p>\n                <\/div>\n            <\/div>\n        <\/div>\n                <div class=\"faq-item\" x-data=\"{ open: false }\">\n            <button type=\"button\" :aria-expanded=\"open\" @click=\"open = ! open\">Failure to Report for an Examination<\/button>\n            <div>\n                <div>\n                <p>If you fail to report for an examination, you will forfeit all fees paid to take the examination. A completed application form and examination fee are required to reapply for the examination.<\/p>\n                <\/div>\n            <\/div>\n        <\/div>\n                <div class=\"faq-item\" x-data=\"{ open: false }\">\n            <button type=\"button\" :aria-expanded=\"open\" @click=\"open = ! open\">International Candidates<\/button>\n            <div>\n                <div>\n                <p>It is the purpose of the NBNSC to provide an avenue for international candidates with credentials equivalent to those in the United States to be eligible to sit for the CNSC<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>\u00a0examination. The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nutritioncare.org\/nbnsc\/policies\/#h-international-policy\"><strong>International Candidate Policies<\/strong><\/a> contain<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>detailed information about the certification information for international candidates. International candidates should note that the CNSC<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>\u00a0exam is a US-based exam and may relate to practice in the US.<\/p>\n                <\/div>\n            <\/div>\n        <\/div>\n                <div class=\"faq-item\" x-data=\"{ open: false }\">\n            <button type=\"button\" :aria-expanded=\"open\" @click=\"open = ! open\">Re-examination<\/button>\n            <div>\n                <div>\n                <p>The certification examination may be taken as often as desired upon filing of a new application and fee. There is no limit to the number of times the examination may be repeated. Candidates may only take the exam once per testing window.<\/p>\n                <\/div>\n            <\/div>\n        <\/div>\n                <div class=\"faq-item\" x-data=\"{ open: false }\">\n            <button type=\"button\" :aria-expanded=\"open\" @click=\"open = ! open\">Refunds<\/button>\n            <div>\n                <div>\n                <p>There will be no refund of fees. Fees will not be transferred from one testing period to another.<\/p>\n                <\/div>\n            <\/div>\n        <\/div>\n                <div class=\"faq-item\" x-data=\"{ open: false }\">\n            <button type=\"button\" :aria-expanded=\"open\" @click=\"open = ! open\">Reinstatement for Expired Certification<\/button>\n            <div>\n                <div>\n                <p>Individuals with an expired certification must retake and pass the examination during one of the testing periods.<\/p>\n                <\/div>\n            <\/div>\n        <\/div>\n                <div class=\"faq-item\" x-data=\"{ open: false }\">\n            <button type=\"button\" :aria-expanded=\"open\" @click=\"open = ! open\">Report of Results<\/button>\n            <div>\n                <div>\n                <p>Candidates will be notified by PTC via email when their score reports are available online. Score reports will be available approximately four weeks after the close of the testing period. Scores on the major areas of the examination and on the total examination will be reported. Examination scores cannot be provided verbally over the phone. Score Reports will be available online only for 30 days. Be sure to save a copy of your score report in your permanent files.<\/p>\n<p>Successful candidates will also receive certificates from the NBNSC approximately six to eight weeks following notification of passing the examination.<\/p>\n                <\/div>\n            <\/div>\n        <\/div>\n                <div class=\"faq-item\" x-data=\"{ open: false }\">\n            <button type=\"button\" :aria-expanded=\"open\" @click=\"open = ! open\">Rescheduling Examination Appointments within a Testing Period and Transferring to a New Testing Period<\/button>\n            <div>\n                <div>\n                <p>Please refer details and processes outlined in the<strong>\u00a0<a title=\"Candidate Handbook\" href=\"https:\/\/nutritioncare.org\/nbnsc\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2025\/02\/NBNSC-Candidate-Handbook-2025.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Candidate Handbook<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n                <\/div>\n            <\/div>\n        <\/div>\n                <div class=\"faq-item\" x-data=\"{ open: false }\">\n            <button type=\"button\" :aria-expanded=\"open\" @click=\"open = ! open\">Ultimate Authority<\/button>\n            <div>\n                <div>\n                <p class=\"Paragraph SCXW66685139 BCX0\">If it appears that an answer to an exam question may vary depending on the reference used the following policy will be followed:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>The ASPEN Practice Guidelines and Standards and Practice papers will be considered the final authority when questions of answers are raised.\u202fThese papers are available at no charge on the\u00a0<a title=\"ASPEN Website\" href=\"https:\/\/nutritioncare.org\/clinical-resources\/guidelines-standards\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>ASPEN Website<\/strong><\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>If the NBNSC determines that a guideline or standard from another organization differs from those published by ASPEN, it will only be considered authoritative if it is a peer reviewed document from a recognized organization and has been published after the publication date of the ASPEN document it disagrees with.<\/li>\n<li>In the event that a question&#8217;s answer is challenged the question and answer will be reviewed by the exam chairperson, the chairperson of the Executive board and, if necessary by a third person with special knowledge of the field.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n                <\/div>\n            <\/div>\n        <\/div>\n        <\/div>\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-certification-0\">Certification<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-international-policy\">International Policy<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>National Board of Nutrition Support Certification, Inc. Policy on Offering Certified Nutrition Support Clinician Exam Internationally.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>International candidates should note that while the CNSC<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>&nbsp;exam is offered internationally, the CNSC<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>&nbsp;exam is a US-based exam and may relate to practice in the US (Effective January 1, 2009).\u202f&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Background:<\/strong><br>The mission of the National Board of Nutrition Support Certification, Inc. (NBNSC) is to promote the enhanced delivery of safe and effective nutritional care through the certification of qualified clinicians practicing nutrition support.\u202f\u202f&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The NBNSC currently offers the Certified Nutrition Support Clinician<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>\u202f(CNSC) examination to the following individuals:\u202f\u202f&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Registered Dietitians (RD) who are registered with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR).\u202f\u202f&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Registered Nurses (RN) who are licensed to practice in the United States.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Physicians who are licensed as doctors of medicine (MD) or doctors of osteopathy (DO) in the United States.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Pharmacists who are registered\/licensed to practice in the United States.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Advanced Practice Providers (physician assistants, advanced practice nurses, nurse practitioners) who are registered\/licensed to practice in the United States.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Doctors of dental surgery\/doctors of dental medicine who are licensed to practice in the United States.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Purpose:<\/strong><br>It is the purpose of the NBNSC to provide an avenue for international candidates with credentials equivalent to those in the United States to be eligible to sit for the CNSC examination.\u202f \u202f&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"nbnsc-highlight\">\n    <div class=\"acf-innerblocks-container\">\n\n<p><strong>PROCEDURE<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"1\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Individuals who practice as dietitians in all countries outside the United States must either obtain the status of a registered dietitian with CDR or have their international education and credentials evaluated and documented as being equivalent to that of a registered dietitian registered in the United States.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Individuals who practice as nurses in all countries outside the United States must either obtain the status of a registered nurse and be licensed to practice in the United States or have their international education and credentials evaluated and documented as being equivalent to that of a registered nurse licensed to practice in the United States.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Individuals who practice as physicians in all countries outside the United States must either obtain the status of a doctor of medicine or doctor of osteopathy and be licensed to practice in the United states or have their international education and credentials evaluated and documented as being equivalent to that of a doctor of medicine or doctor of osteopathy licensed to practice in the United States.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Individuals who practice as pharmacists in all countries outside the United States must either obtain the status of a pharmacist registered\/licensed to practice in the United States or have their international education and credentials evaluated and documented as being equivalent to that of a pharmacist registered\/licensed to practice in the United States.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Individuals who practice as advanced practice providers (physician assistants, advanced practice nurses, nurse practitioners) in all countries outside the United States must either obtain the status of a physician assistant and be licensed to practice in the United States or have their international education and credentials evaluated and documented as being equivalent to that of a physician assistant licensed to practice in the United States.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Individuals who practice as doctors of dental surgery\/doctors of dental medicine in all countries outside the United States must either obtain the status of a doctor of dental surgery\/doctor of dental medicine and be licensed to practice in the United States or have their international education and credentials evaluated and documented as being equivalent to that of a physician assistant licensed to practice in the United States.\u202f\u202f&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The cost of the evaluation of education and credentials is the responsibility of the individual and is separate from any fee that may be charged to sit for the certification examination. Approximate cost for evaluation is $100.00, but may vary from one agency to another.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Once an individual&#8217;s education and credentials have been evaluated as being equal to that in the United States, the individual may submit an application to sit for the CNSC examination.\u202f Documentation of credential evaluation and current license or equivalent to practice in respective field must be submitted with the examination application.\u202f&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The NBNSC will work with their testing company PTC for administration of the examination to international candidates.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>International individuals who have previously sat for and successfully passed the nutrition support certification examination will be eligible to retake the examination without providing the above mentioned documentation as long as there is no lapse in certification. Should a lapse in certification occur for any reason, then that individual must adhere to the above requirements.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>The following agencies may be of assistance in the evaluation of foreign education and credentials.\u202f Note this list is not inclusive of all agencies that may provide this service nor does the NBNSC have any relationship with the listed agencies.\u202f The individual requesting the credential evaluation is encouraged to verify that the selected agency continues to offer this service prior to submitting the request and payment.\u202f\u202f\u202f&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Academic and Professional International Evaluation, Inc.
